Iwan is Indonesian. His birth place is in Surabaya, Indonesia and he was raised in Pangkalan Bun Kalimantan. He credits his success to his parents and how they had raised him.
Iwan resided with his parents for most of his childhood. He was sent to Australia to attend high school in 1985. After that, he pursued went to college at the University of New South Wales. At first, it was a struggle because of the abstract nature of the language of architectural. However, Iwan kept working hard. As his final year was ending, he received distinctions regularly in his studies. In 1982, He graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture (Hons), and he continued to get a Master of Construction Management degree in 1993. The same year, he also became a Registered Architect.
Beginning of his career
Iwan worked initially as an architect at a large Australian company, Cox Richardson Architects. He had no interest in continuing to work as an employee of a big company.He had a goal to run his own business. His drive led him to launch a company called Joshua International Architects in 1994, and he is still the chairman to date.
Working with his business partner, Paul Sathio, they formed Crown Group in 1996. Iwan was destined for top achievement hardly five years after graduating from college. Since then, Crown Group has experienced tremendous growth and is now ranked as one of the leading Australian firms in property development. Not only is it one of the leaders in the industry, but it also has prospective projects with a worth of up to $2.5 billion. A major project that is in the works for 2013 is Skye, which is an upcoming development to be located in North Sydney.
Iwan Sunito‘s leadership and experience in the disciplines of construction, design, and management has brought Crown Group some of Australia’s great accolades around luxurious residential housing and commercial buildings. These are found all over Australia in areas like Eastwood, Homebush, Ashfield and many others.
Awards and Achievements
In 1993, the Eric Daniels Award was awarded to Iwan to recognize his stunning residential designs. In 2007, Crown Group was awarded the Housing Industry Association’s CSR Housing Award for one of its project. In 2010, Crown’s waterfront project in Sydney, called Sanctum, won the Master Builders Association’s Excellence in Housing Award. Right now, he has been nominated for the much coveted award from Ernst and Young, which is the Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
Iwan is also very involved in charity work in both Australia and his homeland. He served as chairman of the Tsunami Corporate appeal of Indonesia. He is also a mentor in a program for young professionals called B2B. Iwan is a devoted husband and father; he is married with three children.
